Formerly known as The Prodigy, this
HIW original, and member of the Boss's Firm, had an impressive run;
winning his debut match on 8-11-01 against eventual HIW champion
Bret Anthony, in a match which Bishop bled for the majority of the
match. Months later, Bishop scored a controversial title win on
1-17-02 against then HIW champion “Icon” Jason Wimberly, as fans
watched on in horror as Bishop used a fireball to pin the champion
and becoming the first rookie to capture the HIW championship. As
the celebrating began, senior official Larry Wade consulted referee
Dustin Downs of the illegal tactic, and ordered the match to
restart. With the smell of burnt flesh, Wimberly managed to
recapture the title on an unsuspecting Bishop. To this day, the
reign is the shortest lived and is still in debate as to whether it
was a legitimate title reign. Soon after, Bishop teamed with fellow
Firm member, the Dark Clown to form the Freakshow, and on 5-10-02,
captured the HIW tag team championship from Guts & Glory; General
Agony & Bret Basics. Months went by as the Freakshow proved to be an
unstoppable combination. However, a split between the Freakshow
occurred and the belts were left in limbo. After a decision from the
board of directors, Bishop was awarded the belts and chose his
mentor, Johnny Blade as his new championship partner. Success
continued, until Blade turned his back in Bishop, and attacked him
in a championship match, and allowed the titles to change hands,
along with a shoulder injury sustained by Bishop earlier in the
match. Shortly after losing the title, the injured Bishop left HIW
as his contract had expired and was not renewed. Now Bishop has a
new contract, and will return in 2007, nearly 4 years later, and
claims this time around, there will be no controversy in the record
books on his next HIW title reign!
